Sumud Gallery, based in Kyoto, is operated by Palestinian artist Marguerite Dabaie. Located in a residential area in Ukyo Ward, the gallery aims to bring Palestinian, Arab, and activist art and crafts to the Kansai area.

What is “Sumud?”
“Sumud” (صمود) is an Arabic term meaning “steadfastness,” “resilience,” or “resistance.” It is often used to describe the determination and perseverance of the Palestinian people under occupation, symbolizing their refusal to give up hope or their commitment to protecting their land, culture, and identity despite difficult circumstances.

No—viewing the gallery is totally free. There are some items and goods for sale, if you’re so inclined.

It is, unfortunately, not accessible, since the gallery is in an old house and quite narrow.

The gallery is situated in a residential area, on the first floor of a Japanese-style house. The owner lives in the space, so if it looks lived in, that’s because it is!
